정정민 교수는 University of Auckland (New Zealand)와 강원대학교에서 학사, 석/박사 학위를 받았으며, University of Michigan (USA)에서  박사후연구원으로 재직 후,  2021년 3월부터 가톨릭대학교 생명공학과에서 조교수로 재직 중에 있다. Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) 및 Cryo-electron tomography (Cryo-ET)를 비롯한 첨단 바이오이미징 기술을 활용하여 생명체 내 주요 고분자의 구조와 기능에 대한 연구를 수행 중이다. 특히 다제내성 감염성 질환에 대한 새로운 치료제 및 백신 개발에 필요한 기초 연구를 진행 중이며, 바이오이미징 전산처리에 접목 가능한 딥러닝 알고리즘 플랫폼 개발 또한 추진 중에 있다. Biophysical Society (USA), Microscopy Society of America (USA), 한국구조생물학회(KSSB), 한국현미경학회(KSM), 한국생명공학회(KSBB), 한국생화학분자생물학회(KSBMB), 한국분자세포생물학회(KSMCB)의 정회원이며, 한국 Cryo-EM 사용자 협회(KOCUA)의 운영위원, 한국단백질과학회(KSPS)의 집행위원, 그리고 한국미생물생명공학회(KMB)의 이사회 위원으로 활동하며 한국 및 글로벌 생명공학 발전에 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.
Professor Jeong Min Chung received his bachelor's and master's/Ph.D. degrees from the University of Auckland (New Zealand) and Kangwon National University. After serving as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan (USA), he has been an assistant professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the Catholic University of Korea since March 2021. He is conducting research on the structure and function of major macromolecules within living organisms using advanced bioimaging technologies, including Cryo-electron microscopy (Cryo-EM) and Cryo-electron tomography (Cryo-ET). In particular, he is working on foundational research necessary for the development of new therapeutics and vaccines for multi-drug resistant infectious diseases and is also developing a deep learning algorithm platform that can be integrated with bioimaging computational processing.
